The unique Western-style woodblock print "American Circus" is by Hide Kawanishi (1894-1965). This cheerful print depicts a variety of unique entertainment by circus performers and animals in those days. Wonderful colors and contrast. This was later printed in 1979.  (posthumous printing) Very large size print. 

Hide Kawasnishi was born in Kobe. He never left his hometown. His modernist and exotic landscape of Kobe and the colorful circus scenes continue to fascinate people both inside and outside Japan. He is one of the pioneer artists of the Sosaku Hanga movement. (Taisho - Early Showa era)

Sheet number: VI/XV (edition 6/15) Extra 15 sheets were produced after the limited edition.
Date: 1979
Signed: Artist signature with a red round seal "Hide" in Hiragana on the right edge of the image.  Artist's red square seal "Hide" in Kanji on the lower right margin.
Condition: Excellent condition.
