Sotatsu Tawaraya

5506

The spectacular woodblock print 'Fujin-zu' (Wind God) is by Sotatsu Tawaraya (year of birth and death unknown), a renowned Japanese Nihon-ga painter of the Rinpa school. Originally painted during the Edo period (17th century) as a pair of two-fold screens (Wind God and Thunder God), they have been national treasures and true masterpieces. This print was published by Tansei-sha in 1983. The publisher seal, printer's name 'Mitsuo Hashizume,' and carver's name 'Sadao Uetani' are located in the right margin. It comes with an original explanation paper. (only Japanese, no English) We recommend displaying the ’Raijin-zu' (Thunder God) and ’Fujin-zu’ (Wind God) prints together like the originals.
