Japanese woodblock print "Setonaikai no Getsumei" (Moonlight at the Seto Inland Sea) is by Shintaro Okazaki (Ca. 1950's). A phenomenal ocean image at night with a fisherman boat. The Seto Inland Sea is the sea separating Honshu from Shikoku and Kyushu. Shōjō (猩々, heavy drinker or orangutan) is a kind of Japanese sea spirit with a red face and hair and a fondness for alcohol. The legend is the subject of a Noh play of the same name. There is a Noh mask for this character, as well as a type of Kabuki stage makeup. The wonderful woodblock print 'Ushigome Kagurazaka' (Evening at Ushigome) is by Koitsu Tsuchiya (1870–1949). Ushigome Kagurazaka is near present-day Kagurazaka, Shinjuku, Tokyo. This print depicts a nighttime scene where women with umbrellas come and go down a long, narrow alley wet with rain. The lanterns of Doi Kappo restaurant and the light inside the restaurant reflect on the rain-filled water surface, creating a soft glow that gives you a sense of nostalgia.
Dated in 1939 (Showa 14 nen). This is a later printing by Hamamatsu-do. (*Doi publisher changed their company name to Hamamatsu-do in 1963 until 1981.) Artist's signature "Koitsu" and the artist's red seal in the lower right corner of the image. Supervisor's seal "Keizaburo Yamaguchi" on the upper left margin. "Yagasuri" is shaped like an arrow feather, originally woven by the technique of Kasuri (splashed pattern). It is regarded as a lucky charm at the wedding, since the arrow does not come back when it shoots. Therefore, Yagasuri is one of the most popular Kimono patterns from long ago. The intricate details of the Kimono, combined with the serene expression of the woman, create a mesmerizing image that is both contemporary and traditional. The wonderful woodblock print 'Yoshida Jinja to Fuji' (Yoshida Shrine and Mt. Fuji) is by Kaiseki Jokata(1882–1966) and is part of the series 'Twenty-five Views of Mt. Fuji' (Fuji nijūgokei). This print depicts a tranquil daily scene at Yoshida Shrine, featuring the large red Torii gate and Mt. Fuji in the background. While not many people are shown, the shrine attracts constant visitors. This beautiful print captures incredible details and is very hard to find on the market.
Kaiseki Jokata (whose real family name is Sadakata) was born in Okayama in 1882. He was an active Nihon-ga artist (painter) and later moved to France, where he was selected for the Salon d'Automne. After returning to Tokyo, he eventually went back to Okayama, his hometown where he was born and raised. Later in his career, he also worked on woodblock prints. Throughout his life, his primary subjects were Mt. Fuji and Buddhist paintings. His woodblock prints, especially those from the Fuji series, are well-known.

Genuine Japanese woodblock print. Beautiful colors and contrast. Very hard to find Shodo's first edition print in very good condition like this print.

The breathtaking woodblock print "Yuzakura, Shinshu Kanbayashi Onsen" (Cherry Blossoms in Evening, Kanbayashi Hot Spring in Shinshu) is by Shiro Kasamtsu (1898 - 1992). Very lovely night image full of cherry blossoms at Shinshu. Japanese title "夕櫻 - 信州上林温泉" Yuzakura, Shinshu Kanbayashi Onsen (Cherry Blossoms in Evening, Kanbayashi Hot Spring in Shinshu) and dated "昭和二十四年五月” Showa 24 nen 5 gatsu (May 1949 ) on the right margin. Artist's signature "紫浪” with the artist's red seal on the lower left corner of the image. Printer's seal "笠松喬介" Kasamatsu Kyosuke (Shiro's son) on the lower left margin. Sheet number and printer's red seal on the lower left corner of the verso. This is a later printing from the original blocks. This print was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shiro Kasamatsu in 1998. Limited edition size of only 195. The publisher is Kyodo Shuppan Sha. It comes with a hard presentation folder.
